- Privy Council appeal: letter, Edward Lawford to James Melvill, 23 Nov. 1841, in answer to Melvill's of 21 October which enclosed an Order in Council to E.I.C. to bring to a hearing the 2 appeals mentioned, unless it should appear unnecessary to do so. Encloses opinion on advisability of bringing to a hearing an appeal from Sadr Diwani Adalat by Collector of Surat against Goorjee Goolab Virjee and Soothee Virjee, and advising on procedure to be followed in provincial courts where the Company, though nominally only a collector, is in fact a party; Spankie, 18 November 1841. (un-numbered in L/L/6/3, but in right place).
