- The file consists of correspondence addressed to the Resident in the Persian Gulf, Ephraim Gerrish Stannus. The subject matter covered includes British trade in the Persian Gulf, the settling of disputes between signatories of the General Treaty with the Arab Tribes of the Persian Gulf 1820, and the suppression of piracy; the Resident has the responsibility to enforce and maintain the treaty. Two other topics covered are the cession of Mombasa to the British Government, as a result of the actions of Captain William Owen, and the rights and privileges of the British at Basra.
