This file contains correspondence between British officials regarding the establishment of a branch of an international bank in Kuwait. The correspondence discusses the suitability of the candidates (Eastern Bank, Ottoman Bank and the Arab Bank) and also gives details of the agreement that was eventually reached between Kuwait and the Imperial Bank of Iran in 1941.
The file also contains translated copies of correspondence between Shaikh Aḥmad al-Jābir Āl Ṣabāḥ, the ruler of Kuwait and representatives of Eastern Bank, Arab Bank and the Imperial Bank of Iran.
A bi-lingual (Arabic/English) copy of the Banking Agreement between Shaikh Aḥmad and the Imperial Bank of Iran on 18 December 1941 is contained on ff 171-174.
