The file relates mainly to Sheikh Sir Hamad bin Isa al Khalifah [Shaikh Ḥamad bin ‘Īsá Āl Khalīfah], first as Deputy Ruler of Bahrain, then Ruler of Bahrain from 1932; also to his younger brother Sheikh Abdullah bin Isa.
The papers include:
- a note containing a personal assessment by the Political Agent of the characters of the two sheikhs, April 1924 (filed at the front of the file, folios 2-3);
- letter from the Political Agent reporting a conversation with Sheikh Hamad, including complaints the Sheikh made against Sheikh Abdullah, March 1920;
- memorandum from the Political Agent recommending Sheikh Hamad receive the honour of Companion of the Star of India (CSI), April 1921;
- letter from the Political Agent to Sheikh Hamad concerning a particular murder, and a general rise in murders in Bahrain, September 1921;
- correspondence concerning Sheikh Abdullah, February 1922;
- letter from the Political Resident to Sheikh Hamad concerning the Sheikh's expenditure, December 1923;
- correspondence concerning visits to England by Sheikh Hamad, June 1924, February-August 1925;
- correspondence concerning the attempted murder of Sheikh Hamad, October 1926;
- correspondence concerning a visit by Sheikh Hamad to Qatar, September - October 1927;
- papers relating to an agreement to pay a monthly allowance to Sheikh Abdullah, February 1935 (folios 72ff);
- letter from the Political Agent detailing the character and habits of Sheikh Hamad, December 1932;
- papers concerning Sheikh Hamad's visit to Kuwait, December 1933;
- papers concerning Sheikh Hamad's Haj, November 1937 - February 1938;
- correspondence concerning a proposed visit by Sheikh Hamad to Ibn Saud [‘Abd al-‘Azīz bin ‘Abd al-Raḥman bin Fayṣal Āl Sa‘ūd (Ibn Sa‘ūd)], February - March 1940;
- correspondence concerning a hunting trip by Sheikh Hamad to Hassa [Hasa], including details of the treatment of his medical conditions, November - December 1941;
