- Title:
- 17/6 AMATEUR TRANSMITTING STATIONS
- Scope & Content:
-
The volume comprises correspondence relating to applications from three individuals, Trevor John Brown and Eric William Dennett of the Bahrain Petroleum Company, and Joseph Alexander Faithful of Cable and Wireless, for licences to practice amateur wireless transmitting in Bahrain.
The correspondence is primarily between the Political Agent at Bahrain, Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, Secretary to the External Affairs Department of the Government of India and the India Office and discusses the application procedures, licences and call signs required to permit amateur wireless transmitting and how these would be authorised and monitored.
Also discussed within the volume is the organisation of civilian radio amateurs, an organisation established by the Royal Air Force (RAF) to make use of amateur radio enthusiasts to monitor certain bandwidths and frequencies in times of emergency.
Included in the volume are:
- Copies of the forms issued by the Postmaster General in the United Kingdom under the Wireless Telegraphy Acts 1904-1926 to permit experiments in wireless telegraphy by amateurs (folios 47-51);
- A copy of the December 1945 issue of the Journal of the Radio Society of Great Britain (folios 135-152).
A series of file notes which were maintained as a record of the correspondence in the volume can be found at folios 219-242.
