The file comprises correspondence related to the vetting of civilians, who reside or resided in Bahrain, and are either employed in or seeking employment outside of Bahrain. The file’s principal correspondents are the Political Agent at Bahrain (Major Tom Hickinbotham) and the Security Officer at Bahrain (Captain C G Campbell), the latter being responsible for carrying out security checks on individuals.

The file includes:

• correspondence relating to the vetting of British Overseas Airways Corporation staff at Bahrain (ff 2-4);
• three letters, all dated 5 August 1944, from the Security Officer, addressed to the British Combined Intelligence Centre, Iraq and Persia (CICI) providing details of a number of individuals and their activities: employment, movements, financial transactions, political views, etc. (ff 5-7);
• correspondence related to the vetting of an applicant to a post in the Persian Gulf Clerical Cadre (ff 8-10);
• correspondence related to the vetting of a man employed as a clerk to the Government of India, who previously lived in Bahrain. Correspondence includes a reference from the Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO, ff 11-12, 16);
• correspondence related to the vetting of an Arabian-American Oil Company (ARAMCO) employee, who is applying to the post of Assistant Medical Officer at Aden. Correspondence includes a reference from ARAMCO (ff 13-15, 18-19).
