- File 32/9 (4/17) Codification of Bahrain Laws
- Scope & Content:
-
This file contains correspondence between British officials regarding efforts to implement a codification of law in Bahrain. The correspondence is primarily between Charles Belgrave, Adviser to the Government of Bahrain; Major Reginald George Evelin Alban, Political Agent in Bahrain; and Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Geoffrey Prior, Political Resident in the Persian Gulf.
The correspondence discusses possible models that could be used as a template for Bahrain (such as the Penal Code of Sudan). Also discussed is from where an individual with the necessary skills needed to draft Bahrain's legal code could be hired; suggestions made include India, Yemen and Zanzibar.
The file contains a letter to Belgrave from Judge H I Lloyd regarding his potential involvement in the drafting of Bahrain's legal code and a possible visit to Bahrain (ff 5-6).
