- Title:
- File 42/9 (4/3 II) Assistant Adviser
- Scope & Content:
-
This file contains correspondence related to the appointment of a number of individuals to positions within the Government of Bahrain.
Much of the correspondence relates to efforts to hire an assistant for Charles Belgrave (Adviser to the Government of Bahrain) who would also act as Chief of Police in Bahrain. In this context, the correspondence discusses a British officer of the Indian Police Force named E J Jenner (who was considered for this position but not hired) and another British officer named Arthur Charles Byard, who had previously served in the Muscat Levy Corps, and was eventually hired for service in Bahrain.
Some of the correspondence is related to the position of factor (or agent) for the private estate of the Ruler of Bahrain [Shaikh Ḥamad bin ‘Īsá Āl Khalīfah].
The majority of the correspondence in the file is between British officials, but it also contains a limited amount of correspondence from the Ruler of Bahrain and his son [Shaikh Salmān bin Ḥamad Āl Khalīfah], which is in Arabic with English translations.
