The file concerns changes of incumbent as Political Agent, Bahrain.
The papers consist of correspondence, forms and certificates, and include charge certificates recording appointments as Political Agent; last pay certificates; papers concerning pay and allowances; papers concerning leave; papers concerning travel arrangements and expenses; papers concerning servant's travel arrangements and expenses; certificates issued when Agents received charge of the Treasury at Bahrain; correspondence with banks, the Postmaster and the Accountant General; covering letters for specimen signatures and seals; papers relating to the payment of Income Tax; papers relating to pensions; certificates confirming that the Political Agent was a government servant and confirming the identity of his wife; circular notice to official bodies in Bahrain announcing the new Political Agent; circular letters to other senior British officials in the Persian Gulf region announcing changes of incumbent at Bahrain; and correspondence with Gulf rulers (including many letters in Arabic) recording and acknowledging changes of Political Agents.
The file also includes papers relating to a claim for pay submitted by Hugh Weightman while officiating as Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, May-October 1938; papers relating to expenses incurred while entertaining members of British royalty in Bahrain, September 1938; and papers relating to an appeal for a memorial to Major Reginald Louis Bazalgette, April to May 1939.
