The file relates to the appointment and service of holders of the post of Indian Assistant (later Judicial Assistant) at the Political Agency, Bahrain.
The papers, which consist of correspondence, memoranda, telegrams, last pay certificates, other certificates, forms, circulars, draft notifications, personal letters, sanction orders and charge certificates, cover the following topics: leave; leave salary; travel arrangements (including family and maidservant); travel expenses and allowance; appointment; pay and allowances (including special pay, house rent and dearness allowances); a letter of complaint against the Assistant, November 1942; medical certificates and associated correspondence; payment of domestic energy bills; correspondence concerning last pay certificates, service books, charge certificates and draft notifications; correspondence concerning the handover of the Agency Treasury; papers concerning dollar exchange compensation allowance; request for payment of dearness allowance, March 1947; General Provident Fund; papers concerning a request for a certificate (employment reference); papers concerning the change in the title of the post from Indian Assistant to Judicial Assistant, including a letter on the subject from the Foreign Office, November 1948 to December 1949; certificates of appointment as Magistrate of the First Class and Subordinate Judge of the First Class, June 1948; and correspondence with the Government of Pakistan over the Judicial Assistant's decision to opt for Pakistani citizenship following the independence of India, February to May 1950.
The Arabic content of this file consists of a letter signed by a number of users of the Agency Court expressing gratitude for the way in which the Indian Assistant had carried out his judicial duties, December 1940, and a bilingual notice announcing the closure of the Agency Court during Ramadan, August 1943.
The covering dates of the correspondence in this file are 28 October 1940 to 31 October 1950. The overall date range is provided by an entry in the notes at the end of the file.
