The file contains numerous quarterly death returns for British and British Indian subjects who died in Bahrain. These were compiled by the Political Agent, Bahrain and sent to the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire.
There are several birth and death certificates, marriage notices and marriage certificates for British and British Indian subjects who were born, married or died in Bahrain. These were issued by the Political Agent, Bahrain in his capacity as Registrar.
There are numerous notifications of death received by the Political Agent, Bahrain. These are mainly in the form of a letter written by the next-of-kin or the staff at the hospital where the death occurred. There is at least one notification of a death at sea aboard a British ship (folio 176). Some death notifications are recorded on British Consular forms.
There are numerous letters from British and British Indian subjects asking the Political Agent, Bahrain to register the birth of their children in the Birth Register of British subjects kept at the British Agency, Bahrain. Some birth notifications are recorded on British Consular forms and are usually from the hospital where the birth occurred.
There is correspondence between the Political Agent, Bahrain; the American religious minister Reverend Gerrit Dirk Van Peursem of the American Mission, Bahrain and a few Christian couples who wished to have a religious marriage ceremony in Bahrain. The planning and arrangements for civil marriage ceremonies performed at the British Agency, Bahrain by the Political Agent are also discussed.
There are instructions received from the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire and notes about formalities and procedures relating to the registration of the births and deaths of British subjects in Bahrain and the solemnization of Christian marriages in Bahrain.
