The file contains correspondence between the Political Agent, Bahrain; the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bahrain; the Adviser to the Bahrain Government and the British Embassy, Baghdad.
The correspondence arose following receipt of a letter in Arabic from Sheikh Aly bin Hassan al Musa [Shaykh ‘Alī ibn Ḥasan al-Mūsá], the Shiah Qadhi of Sinabbis, on behalf of Bahraini subjects living in Basra (folio 2). He asked that they should be granted identity papers by the Bahrain authorities, in view of a proposed census of population by the Iraq Government. The British Embassy in Baghdad informed British officials in Bahrain that the census would most likely start in September 1935, followed by the introduction of conscription.
