The file contains correspondence between the British Embassy, Baghdad and the Foreign Office, London which was copied to the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire.
The correspondence arose following requests for British assistance, from Bahrainis living in Basra. The correspondence discusses the liability of men born in Iraq of Bahraini parentage, to be called up for military service by the Iraq Government. Discussion focuses on interpretation of the Iraq Nationality Law and whether or not Bahrainis living in Iraq under former Turkish rule were recognised as foreign subjects or Ottoman subjects. A similar question with regard to Kuwait and a new nationality law for Bahrain are also mentioned.
