Correspondence, and other papers received from employers in Bahrain, and from employees or former employees who are not native to Bahrain. In most cases the employees are of Indian or Pakistani origin, and require permits to live and work in Bahrain. The correspondence concerns:

• the recruitment of foreign employees by employers in Bahrain, including requests made by employers to the Political Agency for Foreign Service Agreements and certificates of no objection, and guarantees of responsibility undertaken by employers for the employees concerned, including deposits given to the Political Agency to cover the cost of eventual repatriation;
• the discharge (either through the resignation of the employee, or dismissal by the employer) of foreign employees from companies in Bahrain. Correspondence covers the issue of local discharge certificates, and arrangements for repatriation to their country of origin;
• disputes between employees and employers, including the dismissal of employees by employers, cases in which employees have refused to be dismissed or repatriated, and employers’ queries over repatriation costs. Some letters discuss the temperament of individuals, and the undesirability of their remaining in Bahrain;
• Bahrain Government policy on the employment of foreigners in Bahrain (f 167).
