Scope & Content:

Correspondence, statements and other papers (some in Arabic) relating to compensation payments for the death of, or injuries sustained by, crew members of vessels while at Ra’s al Mish‘āb (spelt at Ras El Mishaab and Ras-el-Mishab in the file) in Saudi Arabia. The papers document the following:

  • a case involving a member of the crew of the SS Admiral A P Fairfield, who died after a fall on board his vessel in September 1949;
  • a case involving a member of the crew of the SS Zane Grey, who lost part of his left leg in an accident in October 1949;
  • a case involving a member of the crew of the SS Steel Voyager, who lost a finger in an accident in February 1950.
