The majority of the papers in the file are correspondence between the Political Agencies in Bahrain and Doha, and concern manumission applications from slaves. Most of the manumission applications are made by men who were captured and sold into slavery. There is one case of a born (domestic) slave requesting manumission.
Some of the letters in the file describe the occupations and wages of the enslaved men (including work as watchmen, and work for Petroleum Development Qatar Ltd), the prices paid for the slaves, and their personal and familial stories (see for example folios 10, 16, 20, 29, 32). Included in the file are five copies of a passport-style photograph of a 25-year-old slave, taken on 29 August 1950 (folio 13A).
