- Title:
- File A/6 Claims and complaints received and settled
- Scope & Content:
-
The file contains papers and correspondence related to a host of claims and complaints, occurring both in Bahrain and on the Trucial Coast, that were brought to the attention of the Political Agent in Bahrain. The papers do not provide any detail of the court proceedings or the outcomes of any cases (whether in or out of court), but do provide background to the claims (and in some cases counterclaims) being made by the parties involved. The nature of the cases vary widely, but disputes between employees and employers, business debts, and claims relating to theft of property and claims against property figure prominently. While most of the claims are between two people or parties, a small number involve the Bahrain authorities bringing actions against individuals, for example the Government of Bahrain’s Passport Department prosecuting a boat captain from Qatar who had landed without permission at Bahrain (folio 61), and another action taken by the Passport Department against a Kuwaiti subject, accused of fraudulently obtaining a Bahrain passport (folio 56).

- Arrangement:
- The correspondence and other papers in the file have been arranged in a rough chronological order, starting with the earliest items at the front of the file, to the latest items at the rear. The arrangement of correspondence on a case-by-case basis is inconsistent. In some instances, correspondence related to specific cases has been kept together, along with the accompanying office notes. At other times however, correspondence relating to specific cases is scattered through the file.
