- Title:
- File A/8 Correspondence regarding extradition of persons
- Scope & Content:
-
The file contains correspondence relating to four separate extradition requests in the Persian Gulf region, sent to the Bahrain Political Agency. In the first case Shaikh Ḥamad bin ‘Īsá Āl Khalīfah, Ruler of Bahrain, sought the extradition of a Bahraini subject alleged to have misappropriated money from pearl sales from Bombay (folios 1D-9). The second case is a request from a Bahraini diver who sought to bring one his indebted divers back from Iraq (folio 10-11). Case three is an extradition request for a suspected murderer, from Basra to the Trucial Coast. Case four is summons from a Bahrain subject who was alleged to have abandoned his Iranian wife (folios 15-17). In all cases the correspondence relates purely to the extradition application and its viability (or lack of), rather than the extradition process itself. A circular memo at the end of the file (May 1950) from the British Embassy in Baghdad, requested that all future extradition requests for criminals in Iraq be accompanied with a photograph of the wanted person (folio 19).
