- Title:
- File A/11 II Slave cases Trucial Coast
- Scope & Content:
-
The file comprises eighteen manumission application cases numbered 13 to 30, cases 1 to 12 being contained in the Bahrain Agency file 'File A/11 I Slave cases Trucial Coast' (IOR/R/15/2/1851). The files contain a total of sixty-nine individual manumission applications (as well as one woman’s application for the manumission of her daughter), made to the Residency Agent at Sharjah ('Abd al-Razzaq Razuqi) and submitted to the Political Agent in Bahrain, for authorisation from the Political Resident. All of the manumission statements are included in the file in both in English and Arabic, along with correspondence from the Residency Agent to the Bahrain Agency, and the Bahrain Agent to the Political Residency.
Most of the cases are straightforward in that manumission was unconditionally granted by the Political Resident. Two exceptions are cases 17 and 18, involving three slaves, who were applying for manumission but were being accused by their masters of theft against them.

- Physical Characteristics:
- Foliation: The main foliation sequence begins on the front cover and ends on the back cover. These numbers are circled and written in the top-right corner of the recto of each folio. A number of incomplete foliation sequences are present, which separately number each section (or case) in the file; these numbers are written in pencil, but are not circled and can be found in the same position as the main sequence. These latter sequences run between ff.3-50, ff.58-108, ff.112-126, ff.129-147, ff.150-183, ff.186-198, ff.201-209, ff.212-224, ff.227-249, ff.252-268, ff.271-287, ff.306-317, ff.320-328, ff.331-336, ff.339-354 and ff.356-363. Foliation anomalies: 46A and 46B; 61A, 61B and 61C; 333A and 333B. These sequences are referred to in the office notes at the end of each case.

- Arrangement:
- The file is arranged into eighteen cases. Each case is numbered (13-30) and has its own header page, but there is no index sheet for the cases at the front of the file. The cases are arranged in chronological order, from the earliest occuring case at the beginning of the file, to the latest at the rear. Within each case, correspondence and other papers are arranged in similar chronological order. Office notes relating to each case can be found after the case correspondence. The numbered items in the office notes refer to the internal foliation systems used within each case.
