- Scope & Content:
-
This file largely consists of orders of prohibition and deportation (and in one particular case, a revocation order) passed, under various sections of the Bahrain Order-in-Council, by the District Court, Bahrain (and signed either by the Political Agent, Bahrain, usually in his capacity as District Magistrate, Bahrain, or by the Political Resident, as Judge of the Chief Court). The file also contains related correspondence, most of which is between the Political Agent, Bahrain (Percy Gordon Loch; Tom Hickinbotham; Hugh Weightman), and Charles Dalrymple Belgrave, Adviser to the Government of Bahrain and also Commandant, State Police, Bahrain. Other correspondents include the following: the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire; the Secretary to the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, Bushire; the Deputy Secretary to the Government of India's External Affairs Department. Several of the items in the file, including letters and orders, are written in Arabic.
These orders of prohibition were once located in a number of different files but were later gathered together to form one file. A minute at the beginning of the file, which is written by the Agency's Indian Assistant and dated 28 February 1938, requests that the orders be brought together.
