The file concerns the response in Muscat and Oman to the following events: the death of King George V (on 20 January 1936); the accession of King Edward VIII (also on 20 January 1936); and the accession of King George VI (on 11 December 1936). The file also concerns the Coronation of King George VI in 1937.
The papers include: telegrams announcing the events in question; correspondence concerning salutes and mourning; letters of condolences and congratulations respectively from the Sultan of Muscat and Oman, and members of local communities in Muscat; acknowledgments issued by the Political Agent, Muscat; correspondence from the British Agent, Gwadur [Gwadar]; the decision not to offer clemency to prisoners on the occasion of the Coronation, 1936; the distribution on the Arab Coast of the official souvenir programme of the Coronation, 1937; celebrations to mark the Coronation, 12 May 1937; and the distribution of portraits of King George VI and Coronation medals, 1937.
The Arabic language content of the papers consists of approximately seven folios of correspondence between the Sultan of Muscat and Oman (and his representative), and the Political Agent, Muscat.

An additional foliation sequence is present in parallel between ff 6-170; these numbers are also written in pencil, but are not circled. A previous foliation sequence between ff 4-177, which is also circled, has been superseded and therefore crossed out.
