This file concerns VCOs (Viceroy's Commissioned Officers) from the Indian Army who have been selected for deputation with the Muscat Infantry (also referred to as the Muscat Regiment and the Muscat Levy Corps). The correspondence discusses the status of named VCOs, including details of their terms of secondment with the Muscat Infantry and arrangements for their return to their original regiments in the Indian Army.
In addition, the correspondence discusses the provision of relief or replacements for returning officers, as well as other details such as the granting of leave, promotion, pay, the issuing of certificates, and the awarding of honours. Other related matters of discussion include the following: the postponement of a planned secondment in July 1947, owing to the imminent constitutional changes in India; the question of which Dominion Government (i.e. that of India or Pakistan) officers on deputation wish to serve under after 15 August 1947; the question of the future supply of officers for the Muscat Infantry.

Foliation: the main foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the front cover with 1, and terminates at the inside back cover with 238; these numbers are written in pencil, are circled, and are located in the top right corner of the recto side of each folio. An additional foliation sequence is present in parallel between ff 2-115 and between ff 120-215; these numbers are also written in pencil, but are not circled. A previous foliation sequence between ff 135-207, which is also circled, has been superseded and therefore crossed out.
Condition: damage to folio 118 at some point has resulted in the loss of some of the text.
