- The file contains duplicate accounts and correspondence received by Lieutenant-Colonel Patrick Campbell, HM Consul General and the East India Company’s Agent in Egypt at Alexandria, dated 30 September 1848-31 December 1869. The papers relate to events in Egypt and the Red Sea, and include:
- Tabulated schedules in duplicate (ff 2-87) for salaries (in pounds and piastres) paid quarterly for named British and Ottoman officers, as well as Janissaries (members of Ottoman élite infantry units)
- Tabulated schedules in duplicate (ff 89-134) for the current account of the East India Company with Captain H Johnson, the Packet Agent, later Deputy Packet Agent, of the East India Company at Alexandria
- Tabulated schedules in duplicate (ff 135-179) for the current account of the Council for Government of India with the Agent in Egypt.
The primary correspondents are: HM Consul General and the East India Company’s Agent in Egypt; and the Packet Agent, later Deputy Packet Agent, of the East India Company at Alexandria.
