This file concerns the liability of the Government of India for the defence of oil fields in Persia [Iran], following a conference on oil held in India in January 1914 and the 1914 agreement between HM Government and the Anglo-Persian Oil Company (APOC).
The file contains correspondence and minute papers from the India Office Secret and Political Department and Military Department dated 9 March-31 July 1914, and a despatch from the Marquess of Crewe, Secretary of State for India, to Lord Hardinge, Viceroy of India, dated 17 July 1914, requesting the opinion of the Government of India.
