- The file contains correspondence relating to the refusal of the War Office to permit a British officer, Major Edward Johnson Ross, to publish an article in the Morning Post. The article discusses British policy in Mesopotamia [Iraq]. Ross offers his views on the state of Mesopotamia, argues against a British military withdrawal, and responds to ‘biased’ criticisms of British actions that have been published by Colonel Thomas Edward Lawrence. The file contains correspondence between officials at the War Office, Foreign Office, and India Office, a copy of Major Ross’s article, and a relevant extract from the King’s Regulations.
