This file contains correspondence dated 9 February 1915 to 16 April 1919. The correspondence concerns recommendations for rewards and promotions for British and Indian military and naval personnel serving in Mesopotamia [Iraq], southern Persia [Iran], and the Persian Gulf in the First World War.
Much of the correspondence consists of reports on the actions of personnel considered for rewards, which are sent by military officers up the chain of command, then forwarded to the Government of India, then forwarded to the Home Government.
Other subjects covered in the correspondence include:
- Parliamentary questions relating to military rewards
- The issue of posthumous rewards
- Rewards for service on the North-West Frontier of India
- The question of military rewards for interpreters.
The file also contains:
- Extracts from the London Gazette dated June 1917 and from the Gazette of India dated August, June and February 1915
- A 1915 publication entitled Despatches Regarding Operations in the Persian Gulf and in Mesopotamia, which was presented to both Houses of Parliament.
