This file concerns military policy towards the Bakhtiari [Bakhtiyārī] tribe, which was responsible for the defence of oil fields and pipelines in Arabistan [Khuzestan] under an agreement with the Anglo-Persian Oil Company.
The file contains correspondence between the General Officer Commanding, Indian Expeditionary Force ‘D’ and the Commander-in-Chief in India dated 26-28 November 1916, concerning a proposal by Captain Noel, HM Consul in Ahwaz [Ahvaz], to provide military support to the Bakhtiaris against the Kuhgelu [Kūhgelū] tribes in order to secure Bakhtiari control over the ‘Lynch Road’.
This is accompanied by copies of correspondence between the India Office, Admiralty, Foreign Office, and War Office dated 20 September-6 November 1915 and sent to the Viceroy of India of 10 December 1915, concerning defence of the Arabistan oil fields and pipeline. This includes a report and recommendations from a Departmental Committee dated 8 October 1915.
