This file contains tables displaying British and Indian military personnel recommended for award for service with the Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force, with details of the action for which they were commended. These were sent by the Officiating Commander-in-Chief of the Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force (Major-General Sir George MacMunn up to January 1920; thereafter Major-General Major-General G A J Leslie) to the Secretary of State for War dated 12 November 1919 and 17 January 1920, and to the Military Secretary to the Commander-in-Chief in India dated 22 March 1920.
The file also contains correspondence dated 1 January-3 May 1920 between the War Office, the India Office, Military Department, and the Viceroy and Government of India, Army Department concerning the awards, in particular the award of Companion of the Order of the Star of India to Major-General Robert Archibald Cassels and Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire to Brigadier-General Manners Ralph Wilmot Nightingale.
The file also contains an advanced copy of a supplement to the London Gazette dated 12 January 1920, listing the awards approved by HM the King.
