The file contains correspondence and papers relating to a subsidiary agreement to the Anglo-Iraq Treaty of 1922. Correspondents include the Colonial Office, Air Ministry, War Office, and King Faisal [Fayṣal bin al-Ḥusayn bin ‘Alī al-Hāshimī, also written as Feisal within the volume]. The file covers and includes the following:
- Drafts and revised drafts of articles, schedules and clauses of the Military and British Officials Agreements. A full draft of the British Officials Agreement is included between ff 398-405. Amendments to these are discussed at length
- The conditions of service of Indian Army officers for civil employment in the Iraq Army, including financial arrangements and pensions
- The effects of Indian Army officers’ careers on joining the Iraq Army
- Military policy on promotions
- Amendments to the Baghdad Penal Code. A draft copy of ‘The Baghdad Penal Code Amendment Law, 1924’ (ff 151-155) is included
- Three copies of the subsidiary to the Anglo-Iraq Treaty of 1922, titled ‘Iraq. Protocol of the 30th of April, 1923, and the Agreements Subsidiary to the Treaty with king Feisal, Signed 10th of October, 1922’ (ff 60-70, ff 115-134, and ff 163-182). Each copy includes: ‘British Official Agreement Made Under Article II of the Anglo-Iraq Treaty’, ‘Military Agreement Made Under Article VII of the Anglo-Iraq Treaty’, ‘Judicial Agreement Made Under Article IX of the Anglo-Iraq Treat’ and ‘Financial Agreement Made under Article XV of the Anglo-Iraq Treat’.
