Typewritten poetry drafts with some autograph annotations. The following poems are included - 'Snails', 'Shells', 'Gulls' (1957-1959); 'Gibraltar', 'The Last Migration', 'The Road to Easington', 'Lines to a Newborn Baby' 'The Burning of the Brothel', 'O White Ford Lotus', 'Folklore', 'Plum Blossom', 'Warm Moors', 'To W H Auden', 'Poem to Robert Graves Perhaps', 'After Lorca', 'Sunday Evening', 'On Westminster Bridge', 'My Uncle's Wound' (1960-1967); 'Dog Days Near the Black Sea', '?', 'TV On', 'The Brother's Dream' (one copy of this poem is from a radio transmission from November 1965), 'Crow's Feast', 'This Game is Chess' (entitled 'Christmas Card') and 'Song of Woe' (entitled 'A Tale of Woe') (1967-1970). Drafts of the poem 'Existential Song' entitled 'Eighth Bedtime Story' are also included together with unpublished poems, which from their titles and content appear to be connected with 'Existential Song'. These poems are entitled 'Sixth Bedtime Story', 'Mathematical Fable' and 'Tenth Bedtime Story'. Unpublished poems typed on the same pages as 'Snails' and 'Shells' are also included. 'The Drowned Woman', which is included on the same page as 'Gulls' was published in the journal, Poetry in February 1957.
A photocopy of a poem entered for 'Week-end Competition No. 1,572' by Nicholas Farrar of 'The Beacon', Heptonstall Slack is also included. The poem is about the Aldermaston March in 1959 and is believed to have been written by Hughes under a pseudonym as the address given is for the house that his parents lived in at the time.
