Contains partial drafts of 'The Interpretation of Parables' (1992), three drafts of 'Subsidy for Poetry' (1984), four drafts of 'Baboons and Neanderthals: A Re-Reading of The Inheritors' (written for William Golding: A Man and His Books (1986)). A copy of article 'Arnold Wesker: A Sort of Socialism' (The Nation 191, Vol, 17, 1960), an annotated draft of 'Writing the Libretto of The Pig-Organ' (dated 19th October 1979), a copy of review of Primitive Song by C.M. Bowra (in The Listener, 3rd May 1962), two drafts of review of Myth and Religion of the North by E.O.G. Turville-Petre (The Listener, 19th March 1964), a draft and a partial photocopy of a review of ‘Shamanism’ by M. Eliade (The Listener, 29 October 1964), drafts of essay 'Context' (published in London Magazine, vol. 1, no. 2, 1962, and in slightly different variation in Winter Pollen, 1994), two drafts of a review of A Separate Reality by Carlos Castaneda [1972] and a draft of a review of The Collected Poems of Wilfred Owen along with autograph notes on his life and poetry are included. An article 'Poetry: an Evolutionary Success' (publication details and date unknown, marked as 'UNESCO Features'), an annotated copy of an article written by Hughes for Worlds: Seven Modern Poems (ed. Summerfield, 1974), review of The God Beneath The Sea by Leon Garfield and Edward Blishen (published in Children's Literature in Education, November 1970), a draft of an essay 'Patrick White's 'Voss' (published in The Listener, no. 71, February 1964), a draft of an introduction by Hughes to Amen by Yehuda Amichai (Harper and Row, 1977); a copy of A Garland of Poems for Leonard Clark on his 75th birthday (1980) containing a poem by Hughes 'Fort' (here with autograph annotations and corrections); a partial draft of a review of The Environmental Revolution by Max Nicholson (Spectator and Your Environment, 1970) and a photocopy of a short piece published in Poetry Book Society Bulletin about The Hawk In The Rain (September 1957) are also included. This folder includes some undated material.
