- Partly typewritten and printed, partly autograph. Contains drafts of an essay 'The Poetry of Keith Douglas' published in Critical Quarterly 5 (1963) and as 'Introduction to the Selected Poems of Keith Douglas (Faber and Faber, 1964), together with proof corrections for the volume; and drafts and notes for a foreword about painter Reg Lloyd with whom Hughes worked on several books including What is the Truth?. Drafts of a foreword by Hughes to 'The Lizard's Question' written to mark the 75th birthday of the Duke Edinburgh with related correspondence; drafts and letter relating to 'Introduction to May Anthologies 1995' (The Mays Literary Anthology, which is published annually contains new writing by students from Oxford and Cambridge and each year has a different guest editor, Hughes held the post in 1995) are included. Two drafts of a foreword for In Praise of Trout by David Profumo (1989), drafts of an introduction to Where I Used To Play On The Green by Glyn Hughes (1984), a draft of a foreword for What Rhymes with 'Secret'? by Sandy Brownjohn (1982) and an introduction to the Young Poetry Pack (1995) are also included. A letter with a piece about Daniel Huws' poetry to be included on a volume cover (the name of the collection is not given), drafts of The Hanged Man And The Dragonfly (A Note for A Panegyric Ode, Celebrating The Publication Of Leonard Baskin's Collected Prints), drafts of an introduction for the programme of a Leonard Baskin exhibition of woodcuts and wood-engravings (1962) and part of an annotated publisher's typeset of the first pages of Choice of Emily Dickinson's Verse (1968) are included. This folder includes some undated material.
