- User Conditions:
- Physical Characteristics:
- Foliation: the foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the third folio with 1 and terminates at the last folio with 767; these numbers are written in pencil, are circled, and are located in the top right corner of the recto side of each folio. A previous foliation sequence between ff 65-767, which is also circled, has been superseded and therefore crossed out. The foliation sequence does not include the front and back covers, nor does it include the leading flyleaves. The sequence contains one foliation anomaly: f 466a.

- Arrangement:
-
The enclosures to each despatch (each Item) within the volume are separated by blue dividers, to which despatch black or red number tags attached. A notice pasted on the front of the volume states: ‘The figures in black type indicate Despatches from the Governor General: those in red indicated Despatches from the Governor General in Council, President in Council, &c.’
The first four despatches are arranged in chronological order from the front of the volume to the rear of the volume, 10 January-14 February 1838. The fifth despatch is dated 21 January 1838. The order of the enclosures within each despatch varies between chronological, approximate chronological and non-chronological. The enclosures within each despatch are preceded by an abstract of contents, in which the despatch itself (not included) is numbered 1, the abstract of contents 2, and the enclosures 3, 4, etc. The numbers listed in the abstract of contents are recorded for reference on the verso of the last folio of each enclosure, along with a summary description of each enclosure.
