Scope & Content:

The volume consists of Enclosures to Despatches to the East India Company Secret Committee, dated 1 April-20 December 1839. The Despatches themselves are not included in the volume.

The main subjects covered by the enclosures include: the Company's invasion of Afghanistan and the opening months of the First Anglo-Afghan War; relations with Ava [Myanmar] and Nipal [Nepal]; events in India, Persia [Iran], the Ottoman Empire and the Arabian Peninsula.
