- Physical Characteristics:

Foliation: the foliation sequence (used for referencing) commences at the first folio with 1 and terminates at the last folio with 351; these numbers are written in pencil, are circled, and are located in the top right corner of the recto side of each folio. The foliation sequence does not include the front and back covers, nor does it include the leading and ending flyleaves.
Pagination: the file also contains an original handwritten pagination sequence.
The sequence includes two foliation anomalies, ff 140a and 141a.
- Arrangement:
- The main text is preceded by four indices under the following headings: 'Miscellaneous Information regarding Turkish Arabia' (ff 3-26), 'Appointments etc. in Turkish Arabia Commencing with the year 1728' (ff 27-32), 'Salaries & Allowances at different periods of the Officers employed in Turkish Arabia' (ff 33-34), and 'Euphrates Expedition and Flotilla' (ff 35-36). Each entry in each index gives the year, followed by a few lines describing the corresponding summary in the main text, alongside the paragraph number of that summary and the page number(s). In the case of the first index, most but not all of the numbered paragraphs from the main text are listed; in the remaining three indices, only those paragraphs directly relating to the stated subject are included. It should also be noted that not all of the period 1646-1846 is covered in the précis; there are several significant gaps: 1664-1670, 1683-1707 and 1708-1719.
