This volume contains copies of Political, General, and Judicial Despatches from the Government of India's Foreign Department to the Secretary of State for India, dated July 1873.
The Despatches usually consist of a covering letter followed by enclosures (mostly copies of correspondence). Some of the Despatches include an abstract of contents after the covering letter, and there is more than one copy of most of the Despatches.
The Despatches are numbered and dated, and are usually also stamped with the date they were received by the India Office Political and/or Secret Department.

The foliation sequence does not include the front and back covers, nor does it include the leading and ending flyleaves.

The Despatches are grouped together within the volume by type of Despatch (Political, General, and Judicial), and are then arranged numerically by Despatch number (and chronologically) from the front to the rear of each group of Despatches.
Some copies of Political Despatch No. 128 of 1873 at folios 270-284 seem to have been filed out of sequence, as they appear between No. 123 and No. 124. Further copies of No. 128 appear at folios 308-336.
