Scope & Content:

This volume contains copies of Political, General, Finance, Revenue, Judicial, Revenue-Irrigation, and Military Despatches from the Government of India Foreign Department to the Secretary of State for India, dating from August and September 1873.

The Despatches usually consist of a covering letter followed by enclosures (mostly copies of correspondence). Most of the Despatches include an abstract of contents after the covering letter, and there is more than one copy of most of the Despatches.

The Despatches are numbered and dated, and are usually also stamped with the date they were received.

There are additional intermittent pagination sequences.

The foliation sequence does not include the front and back covers, nor does it include the leading and ending flyleaves.

The sequence contains 132 foliation insertion anomalies (e.g. 2a, 3a etc.).

The Political Despatches are arranged numerically by Despatch number (and chronologically) from the front to the rear of the volume, with other types of Despatch (General, Finance, Judicial, etc.) interspersed throughout the volume.
