‘Foreign Letters from India March & April 1874’

Scope & Content:

This volume contains copies of Political, Secret, Finance, Revenue and General Despatches from the Government of India Foreign Department to the Secretary of State for India, dating from March and April 1874.

The Despatches usually consist of a covering letter followed by enclosures (mostly copies of correspondence). Some of the Despatches include an abstract of contents after the covering letter, and there is more than one copy of most of the Despatches.

The Despatches are numbered and dated, and are usually also stamped with the date they were received.

The foliation sequence does not include the front and back covers, nor does it include the leading and ending flyleaves. The sequence contains 163 foliation insertion anomalies (e.g. 1a, 4a etc.).
