Scope & Content:

The volume comprises telegrams, despatches, correspondence, memoranda, and notes, relating to British support for an Arab caliphate under British suzerainty. The discussion in the volume relates to the plots to foment a rebellion in the Arab Ottoman provinces and the military support required from the British.

Further discussion surrounds the distribution of revolutionary tracts. The volume includes a translation of one such publication, 'Third Cry to the Arab Nation'.

The principal correspondents in the volume include the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, (Sir Edward Grey); the Under-Secretary of State, India Office; the Viceroy; the Governor General's Office, Khartoum; and the Oriental Secretary to the British Representative, Cairo.

The volume includes a divider which gives the subject and part numbers, the year the subject file was opened, subject headings, and a list of correspondence references contained in that part by year. This is placed at the back of the correspondence.
