The volumes contain letters, telegrams and memoranda relating to the appointment of the Chief Local Representative of the Bahrain Petroleum Company ( BAPCO). The file contains correspondence between BAPCO and the India Office concerning such matters as relevant prior experience and suitability for appointment of various candidates. Correspondence also discusses the approval of candidates following consultations with other Departments such as the Admiralty and the Foreign Office.
The file includes (ff 51-55) a copy of the 'Agreement with His Majesty's Government (Political Agreement) between the British Government and the Bahrain Petroleum Company, which lists the conditions on company registration and staffing.
The principal correspondents in the volumes are the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; the Political Agent in Bahrain; officials of the India Office, London; the Chief Local Representative for BAPCO, Ed Skinner; and BAPCO's London representative, Hamilton Ballantyne.
The volumes include dividers which give the subject number, the year the subject file was opened, the subject heading, and a list of correspondence references by year. These are placed at the back of the correspondence.
