P 255/1925 Pt 2 'Persian & Baluchistan frontier'
- Scope & Content:
- This volume contains papers relating to political and military affairs in Pahlavi [Pahlavī] Persia [Iran], with particular reference to the province of Baluchistan [Baluchestan]. The contents are mainly in English, with texts occasionally in French. Papers comprise India Office Political Department memoranda and enclosures in print and typescript, with handwritten annotations, notably covering and including:
- The rebellion of the Baloch [Balūch] leader, Dost Mahomed Khan [Mīr Dūst Muḥammad Khān Balūch], Ruler of Bampur, who was at first appointed Governor of Baluchistan in the reign of the Qajar Shah [Qājār Shāh], and was then removed from his position by the new Pahlavi Shah
- Dost Mahomed Khan’s surrender and imprisonment in Tehran, where, after briefly absconding from prison, he was eventually found, charged, court marshalled, and shot on 25 January 1930 (f 105)
- Russian anti-British propaganda suggesting that the British wanted to spread unrest in Persia by supporting Dost Mahomed Khan’s rebellion
- British disavowal of intrigues with Dost Mahomed Khan, and a request from Kabul for British help in preventing his entry into Afghanistan
- Disturbances arising in the British Indian province of Baluchistan [Balochistan, Pakistan] from the presence and activities of Persian soldiers under license (such as, the alleged rape of a woman and the shaving of the heads of protesting men)
- Movement of approximately 700 Baranzai [Bārānzay] refugees from Persia into British India, and the proposal to send them to Arabia or Muscat
- The eventual transportation of the Baranzai refugees along the eastward route from Duzdab [Zahedan] via Mirjawa [Mirjaveh] into Indian Mekran [Makran], and then on to Karachi
- Reports of the export of a new type of rifle from Latvia via Hamburg to Bander Abbas [Bandar-e ‘Abbas], thought to relate to an order for arms (costing 60 million krans [qirān]) from Czechoslavakia [Czechoslovakia] placed earlier by the Government of Persia.
