The file contains correspondence regarding arrangements for the deduction of Indian and British income tax from the salary of the Aden Resident, later Chief Commissioner, which prior to 1937 was paid equally from Imperial and Indian funds. The correspondence also considers the tax arrangements for British military and political personnel serving at Aden whose pay is provided wholly from Imperial funds. The possibility of income tax relief, or a compensatory payment, is discussed.
The file comprises correspondence between Bernard Reilly (Aden Resident, later Chief Commissioner), the India Office, the Colonial Office, the Government of Bombay Political Department, and the Accountant General to the Government of India.
The file includes a divider which gives a list of correspondence references contained in the volume by year. This is placed at the end of the correspondence (folio 1).
