This file consists of one letter, dated 19 July 1949 and addressed by the British Legation in Amman to the Foreign Office's Eastern Department. The letter relays reports of 'unknown reliability' that King Ibn Saoud [‘Abd al-‘Azīz bin ‘Abd al-Raḥmān bin Fayṣal Āl Sa‘ūd] proposes to hold a World Islamic Congress in Mecca in mid-October 1949, to coincide with the pilgrimage. The letter goes on to discuss further reports that the guest of honour at the Congress will be Haj Amin al-Husseini [Muhammad Amin al-Husayni], former Mufti of Palestine, and that motions will be carried opposing the union of Palestine and Jordan.
