- Title:
- Coll 26/14 (3): 'PALESTINE: Supply of Information to P.R.P.G: Developments affecting the Persian Gulf and Aden'
- Scope & Content:
- This file contains correspondence on developments in Palestine and their reverberations in the Persian Gulf states and the Protectorate of Aden from 25 November 1947 to 27 October 1948. The correspondence is primarily between the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf, the Commonwealth Relations Office, the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations, the Air Ministry, and the Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Aden. It includes/covers the following:
- A telegram from 'Ghazi Abdul Karim [Ghāzī ‘Abd al-Karīm] (from Palestine)' via Peshawar, describing the extreme perturbation of the entire world, 'especially the Mujahadins [Mujahidin, presumably the Palestinian resistance]', caused by the American and British division of Palestine, and warning of the potential danger to 'British Nationals residing in the Muslim Countries'
- The appointment of a Special Magistrate by the Governor of Aden to process all claims of 'loss, damage, injury or deaths', and the possibility of claims for compensation by the governments of Iraq and Persia [Iran], following anti-Jewish riots in Aden and Bahrain
- The necessity of maintaining two British naval vessels in the Persian Gulf, despite the reduction of forces overseas and the need for refitting the present sloops, in order to safeguard Britain's interests in the region and its 'special position in the Sheikhdoms'
- The passage of Sayid Jamal al Husaini [Sayyid Jamāl al-Ḥusaynī], Chairman of the Arab High Commission of Palestine [Arab Higher Committee], through Bahrain en route to Riyadh, with an enclosed secret report on Husaini's arrival, movements, and departure
- The deployment of an Arab force, about 200 men strong, from Syria across the border into Palestine, and attacks on certain Jewish colonies close to the border
- The plans for Britain's withdrawal from and perceived role in the partition of Palestine, the handover of administrative power from the United Kingdom to the United Nations Commission, and the views of the Foreign Minister of Egypt [Aḥmad Muḥammad Khashabah Pāshā], the Prime Minister of Lebanon [Riyāḍ Riḍā al-Ṣulḥ], and the Prime Minister of Iraq [Sāliḥ Jabr].
