The file concerns the visit to England of Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad [‘Abdullāh bin Ḥamad Āl Khalīfah], son of Shaikh Hamad bin Isa al Khalifah [Ḥamad bin ‘Īsá Āl Khalīfah], Ruler of Bahrain. The purpose of the visit was to enable Shaikh Abdullah to acquire a good knowledge of English. The papers include a letter proposing the visit from Charles Dalrymple Belgrave, Adviser to the Ruler of Bahrain, and some details of Shaikh Abdullah's residence in England with a private tutor in Oxford (Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Hosking Gordon Browne).
