- The file contains correspondence relating to the arrangements made for the private visit of Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, and Alexander Cambridge, 1st Earl of Athlone, to Ibn Saud [Ibn Sa‘ūd] and the Sheikh [Shaikh] of Bahrain (also spelled Bahrein in the file) and his family. It also contains correspondence related to the following:
- Photographs sent by the Earl and Countess to the Sheikh of Bahrain
- An invitation to visit, received by the Earl and Countess from the Sheikh of Kuwait (also spelled Koweit in the file)
- The couple’s royal visit to Tehran, representing King George VI at the celebrations of the marriage of the Persian [Iranian] Crown Prince [Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, later the Shah of Iran] to Princess Fowzieh [Fawziyyah Fu’ād of Egypt, also spelled Fawzie in the file], which were held from 22 to 25 April 1939.
