- This file contains correspondence on Persian [Iranian] attitudes towards the war in Europe [Second World War] from 8 July 1939 to 20 February 1942. The correspondence is primarily comprised of exchanges between HM Minister in Tehran and the Foreign Office, and includes material relating to the following matters:
- The alleged intention of the Bakhtiaris [Bakhtīyārīs, the Bakhtīyārī Tribe] to sabotage the oil fields and the assessment of the threat by the Anglo-Persian Oil Company
- The possibility of an Italian air strike on Abadan and the Iranian oil fields, similar to that carried out against the Protectorate of Bahrein [Bahrain]
- The alleged plan of the Allies to bomb Batoum [Batumi] and Baku, and subsequent anti-Iranian propaganda in the press and wireless services of the Soviet Union
- The possibility of acts of sabotage being carried out against ships calling at Abadan, Bushire [Bushehr] and Bandar Shapur [Bandar Imam Khomeini]
- The activities of the German, Italian, Soviet, Japanese, Polish, Turkish, French, and United States legations as reported by HM Minister in Tehran
- The views of the Iranian Government, Crown Prince [Moḥammad Rezā Pahlavī], and those of the Shah [Rezā Shāh Pahlavī] regarding the war in Europe.
