'Karun River: Memorandum by Mr Baring'
- Scope & Content:
- The memorandum is a response from Walter Baring to Sir Henry Creswicke Rawlinson's argument that the potential benefits of opening up the Karun [Kārūn] River to steam navigation are outweighed by the potential problems (see IOR/L/PS/18/C35). It argues that the Karun River scheme should not be completely abandoned, and that the transhipment of goods could bypass the natural obstruction to steam vessels at Ahwaz [Ahvāz]. It also includes some discussion of some of the overland routes into Persia.
