'LINES OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN TURKEY AND PERSIA'
- Scope & Content:
-
This volume is entitled LINES OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN TURKEY AND PERSIA, and is a description of the British lines of communication between the Ottoman Empire and Persia [Iran]. It was produced in 1916 by the General Staff of the British Indian Army and was printed by the Government Monotype Press, Simla [Shimla]. It describes fifty-seven routes between locations in Turkey, Mesopotamia, and Persia.
The information given about each route varies. Most of the entries describe: the length of the route in miles; sections of the journey; the quality of the roads; any repairs or improvements required to make the roads passable; and whether they are suitable for wheeled vehicles. Many also contain information about the environmental conditions found along the route, often specifying the best time of year for military operations.
Information about the quality and type of supplies, fodder, grazing, fuel, and water available is given for some routes. A ‘Local Transport Available’ section details any forms of transport available nearby, while miscellaneous details are included in a ‘General Remarks’ section.
