The volume consists of a collection of copies of documents, reports and memoranda regarding British political and commercial interests in the Persian Gulf, including the arms trade. These are:
- ‘British Interests on the Coast of Arabia, Koweit [Kuwait], Bahrein [Bahrain], and El Katr [Qatar]’ by Richmond Thackeray Willoughby Ritchie (Political and Secret Department, India Office, 30 January 1905) (ff 3-4)
- A report titled ‘The Arms Traffic’ dated 15 June 1906 by John Evelyn Shuckburgh (Political and Secret Department, India Office, 12 December 1906) (ff 5-8)
- ‘Memorandum respecting British Interests in the Persian Gulf’ by E Parker [also referred to as A Parker] (Foreign Office, 12 February 1908) (ff 9-71)
- ‘Supplementary Memorandum respecting British Interests in the Persian Gulf’ (Foreign Office, 18 March 1908) (ff 72-90)
- ‘Appendix T*. The Arms and Ammunition Traffic in the Gulfs of Persia and Oman.’ (memorandum prepared by John Gordon Lorimer and others, 1906-08, for the Gazetteer of the Persian Gulf) (ff 91-104).
A table of contents has been handwritten in pen on the verso of folio 2 by John Eveleyn Shuckburgh dated 13 January 1910. His initials and signature appear multiple times throughout the volume. Handwritten annotations are also present on ff 5, 7, 12, 16, 18-20, 24, 26-29, 39, 43, 61-62, 72-77, 83-84, 91-92 and 101-102.
